Gulf of Mexico
Considerations for offshore wind development in the Gulf of Mexico are in the infancy stage. As of 2020, there have been no call or lease areas designated, but BOEM has funded the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to conduct two studies looking at potential renewable energy development in the Gulf. In November 2020, Governor Edwards of Louisiana requested BOEM to convene a Task Force to advance offshore wind in the Gulf of Mexico.
